SPECIFICATION
Ian Oughtred Sooty Tern sailing/rowing skiff craftsman built by the owner from Alec Jordan molds. The Sooty Tern is a slightly stretched version of the Arctic Tern design, a sailing beach boat with a large following. This particular boat was built for rowing and day sailing with a lug rig on Rutland Water.

Construction
Planked in 9mm Robins best quality marine plywood, all epoxy glued and fully filleted to create a stiff and light weight hull. Solid Teak gunnel and rubbing strake gives stiffness to the top of the hull. One pair of detachable gunmetal crutches/rowlocks fitted into the gunnel.
Varnished wooden thwarts with heavy supporting knees. The Centreboard case is fitted with a swinging wooden center board and are coated with epoxy and fine fiberglass cloth. The rudder and hull below the waterline has also been finished in the same way. Air bags are attached to the underside of the thwarts. The inside of the hull is varnished and the outside oil finished.
The mast and spars are varnished spruce and the mast and sail can be raised by one person. There are no shrouds or fore stay ( Lug rig ). There is no engine well.
