Our beautiful 152 year old 'Pauline' is for sale. It's time for her to have new owners that love her as much as we do. She is a 57’ long, 14’ wide ‘Calder and Hebble' Keel, an iron British Barge built in 1869 in Goole, Yorkshire, for the Aire and Calder Navigation Company. Her Hull is riveted iron and superstructure is steel. When working she carried mixed cargo on the rivers and canals of Northern England powered by wind in her square central sail, the ebb and flow of the tides and at times pulled from the towpath. She is on the national historic ships register. She was built to fit the northern waterways and the wide canals of Great Britain.
We have lived aboard since 1989, removing the mast and converting her to a comfortable family home. We motored her across the North Sea spending 18 months touring Holland, Belgium and France. Pauline’s diesel tank holds 100 gallons and is full. The Engine is a “Parsons Pike”, based on ford 4D, completely overhauled by the owner. A spare engine is also available. She has a Vetus M205 6KW generator, a 600 gallon water tank and 50 gallon header tank. She comes as a fully equipped liveaboard. She has a boat safety certificate - BSS, until November 2023. Clinker built iron riveted hull with small full length keel, steel superstructure. Fitted out with wood and faced ply. Hull insulated with rockwool and cabin insulated with insulation boards. 3 Large triplex polycarbonate walk-on roof lights and bullseyes bring in natural light. Recently fitted Caldwells hopper windows.
We have a wood and polycarbonate back deck cover for when moored which we remove prior to navigition. Fenders, ropes, mooring pins, sledge hammer and windlasses. Air horn. TV aerial and mast. 1000w Inverter. Charger: Professional Mariner Inc 50amp. Calorifier to hot water tank heated by engine and emersion.
